Application Notes
IEC 60320 C14 to S-Lock C21 power cords feature a standard C14 plug and a universal locking C21 connector, securing the equipment-side connection against inadvertent disconnects. The standard C14 plug mates with any C13 outlet on a PDU or power source — no special PDU is required.
The S-Lock C21 connector is rated for higher operating temperatures (up to 155°C) and is backwards compatible, mating with both C20 and C22 inlets. This makes C14 to S-Lock C21 cords suitable for a broader range of equipment than a standard C14 to C19 cord, covering both standard and high-temperature C20-inlet devices as well as C22-inlet equipment. The S-Lock mechanism locks securely to the inlet without requiring any proprietary inlet on the device.
C14 to S-Lock C21 cords are well suited for network closets, data centers, AV racks, and any environment where higher-temperature equipment with C20 or C22 inlets requires a secure, locking connection from a standard C13 PDU outlet.
Product FAQs
What is an S-Lock C21 connector?
An S-Lock C21 is a universal locking IEC 60320 C21 connector with an integrated retention mechanism. It locks to any standard C20 or C22 inlet to prevent inadvertent disconnection. A deliberate release action is required to unplug it.
What makes the C21 connector unique?
The C21 is rated for higher operating temperatures (up to 155°C) and is backwards compatible, mating with both C20 and C22 inlets. This gives a single cord the flexibility to power both standard and high-temperature equipment across two inlet types.
Does the equipment need a special inlet to use an S-Lock C21 cord?
No. The S-Lock mechanism is built into the connector and works with any standard IEC 60320 C20 or C22 inlet. No proprietary inlet is required.
Does the PDU need special outlets to use a C14 to S-Lock C21 cord?
No. The C14 plug is a standard IEC 60320 plug that mates with any C13 outlet. No special PDU is required on the source side.
What devices use a C14 to S-Lock C21 power cord?
These cords are commonly used with managed network switches, blade servers, high-density switches, storage arrays, and other equipment with C20 or C22 inlets where higher temperatures and secure locking connections are required.
